I grew up in a village called Crathes in Aberdeenshire. As a child I was often found whitling sticks in my favourite spot under a rowan tree and when a little older carving figures with my first set of chisels, which I was very proud of. After studying philosophy and sociology in Glasgow I decided to pursue a growing interest in woodworking and entered a furniture making course in Glasgow. After this I worked with cabinetmakers in Glasgow, Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh, gaining invaluable skills and knowledge of how to work and design with wood.
Since 2016 I have been a self-employed cabinetmaker working out of my workshop in the grounds of Newbattle abbey in Dalkeith. Over the years I have been lucky enough to work on many interesting projects and I’m glad to find my enjoyment and interest in designing and making furniture has grown over the years. I pride myself on working hard and doing good quality work designed to last lifetimes. In my spare time I enjoy hill walking and camping with my dog, particularly in the highlands. I’m a keen reader and very amateur tin whistle player.
