I aim to make the process of commissioning work from me to be as transparent as possible and to involve the client as much as they are interested in being.
The way I usually work is to meet or exchange emails to understand the nature of the project. I like to meet where the commissioned piece will be installed so I can see the space and take any measurements needed. At this meeting I can provide thoughts, advice and samples of wood so the client can see them in the space where the finished piece will be installed.
After discussing the project I can get to work designing and produce drawings of what I’m proposing. This can be one drawing or a few different designs for the client to choose between. Once I have made a drawing I can calculate the materials and time needed to make the piece so the cost of the commission is upfront and won’t change. When we have a design we are both happy with I ask for a 50% deposit and the remaining 50% once the piece has been delivered and installed. However, I am open to other arrangements.
I enjoy working with clients to understand what they are looking for and translating these ideas into a finished piece. If you have any questions about the process or would like to begin commissioning a piece please get in touch.
